Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Wrap Up

The biggest sporting event in the city’s history has come to an end, and the team at JVG Sound have had a blast seeing the official Gold Coast Commonwealth Games venues come to life with excitement and sporting spirit.

Australia was the overwhelming winner of this year’s Games, with a final medal count of 198, over 60 medals ahead of second place which was England.

JVG Sound had a hand in the audiovisual installations at various Games sites including the Gold Coast Hockey Centre, Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Broadbeach Bowls Club and the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre. With PA systems and audio being a central part of the sporting arena experience, JVG Sound was proud to be chosen for these projects and took every step to ensure the games had the best audio and backstage sound possible for the very special events.

At the Hockey Centre, the fitout included 40 J Audio QF speakers, 33 Bose DS Enviro speakers and 9 J Audio CS4500 amps, all processed with Bose Dante ESP and controlled with Crestron.

The Aquatic Centre was a standout venue and the place where Australia won their most Gold medals in the Swimming events. It featured 24 Bose 402 Outdoor Speakers surrounding 3 pools for even sound distribution, J Audio Ceiling Speakers inside all facilities, a Biamp Vocia BGM/paging system and more.

The Indoor Sports Centre was home to sold out sessions for Netball and Gymnastics and was one of the biggest developments by the Queensland government for the Games. We installed the audio in the stadium and in the corridors, meeting rooms and reception including 36 JAudio VLA 12i line arrays, 16 JAudio DA2 DSP Amps, a Biamp paging system, Crestron control system, RF hearing augmentation, Bose pendant speakers and Shure wireless mics. AV products included Samsung panels, Epson projectors and Screen Technics motorized screens.

The installation at the Bowls Club featured Sony display panels, Bose DSP 00, 2 EziControl 16×16 video switchers, Bose DS16SE and DS100 speakers, Crestron CP3 Control, TSW750 Touch Screen & MB-B10 button panel, 100V JAudio amps (100V) and ceiling speakers.
